Best Balm for Lips, Body, Mums and Babies

Our Olive Balm is a paragon of minimal, clean beauty. With only 8 ingredients, our nourishing balm is so versatile that we weren’t even able to list all of its uses in this post! Gone are the days of bathroom vanities overpopulated with pills and potions that only have one job - the Olive Balm can do it all. Using the goodness of Mother Nature, we’ve perfected the Olive Balm formula so that it is the best combination of beneficial ingredients that can help in healing a host of different skin ailments. Here are some of the main ways you can use Olive Balm:

For Lips & Dry Spots

Our Olive Balm provides intense hydration for luscious lips, healthy cuticles, soft elbows, smooth heals and relief for any other area effected by dryness or cracking. Why is Olive Balm so effective for dry skin? The secret is our farm grown, cold pressed, extra virgin olive oil. Olive oil has a very similar chemical composition to that of the skin’s natural oil, sebum. These two compounds are both made up of triglycerides, squalene and sterols, making it very easy for olive oil to penetrate through the skin’s barrier and restore moisture to dry skin. In addition to olive oil, our Olive Balm is made up of ingredients that moisturise dry and damaged skin. These ingredients include ingredients which have been shown to reduce water loss from the skin barrier such as beeswax, tocopherol (liquid vitamin E) and soybean oil. All of these ingredients work in harmony to help achieve skin that is soft, smooth and luscious. The moisturising effects of Olive Balm also make it perfect for keeping nails and cuticles healthy, moisturising being one of the main ways you can look after your nails, according to WebMD

For Body

One of the great things about Olive Balm is that such a natural, simple product can be used to effectively treat symptoms of inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and sunburn. In a study using a mixture of olive oil, beeswax and honey to treat dermatitis and psoriasis, 8/10 patients with dermatitis and 5/8 patients with psoriasis showed significant improvement after 2 weeks. Centella leaf extract, another healing ingredient in our Olive Balm, has been shown to promote collagen growth in human skin cells, explaining its skin healing properties. The anti-inflammatory powerhouse, Calendula, is known to have soothing effects on inflammatory skin conditions - a study even noted that Calendula has a “rejuvenating effect” on human skin. These ingredients also provide relief for sunburnt areas, there is even some evidence that olive oil may reduce UV-induced skin cancer (sunscreen is still a must). The healing properties of olive oil and beeswax, combined with Centella leaf extract, Calendula oil, and the other moisturising oils in our Olive Balm, help this soothing, healing balm.

For Mums

This week is World Breastfeeding Week (1st-8th August, 2019), so we are celebrating the fantastic benefits that our Olive Balm has for breastfeeding mums. Breastfeeding can be painful, particularly for new mums who are just learning the positions and latches that work best for them and their baby. Nipple pain is the most common complaint of breastfeeding mums, studies show, and one of the major reasons why 4 in 10 mothers stop breastfeeding by 10 months. This is where our balm comes in: olive oil, beeswax, castor oil and soybean oil help lubricate any dryness or cracking which can often contribute to the pain of breastfeeding. The anti-inflammatory properties of olive oil, Centella leaf extract and Calendula oil help heal damaged nipples, which is helpful since an important part of preventing nipple soreness is making sure that any damage done to the nipple is healed before it’s exacerbated. Through protecting, soothing and healing sore and tender nipples, our Olive Balm helps mums through the tricky process of breastfeeding.

For Babies

One of the difficulties of navigating life with a newborn is looking after their delicate skin! The slightest bit of chafing can cause pain that upsets baby. It is no surprise, then, that the constant scraping of nappies on babies’ soft skin causes a painful dermatitis known as nappy rash. Our Olive Balm has worked for many mums trying to soothe the pain of their baby’s nappy rash. Just as with the inflammatory skin conditions mentioned above, studies have shown that the same mixture of olive oil, beeswax and honey helped symptoms of pain and irritation caused by nappy rash. Our Olive Balm is not only useful for nappy rash, but also any dermatitis that may afflict babies in the first years of their life. One study showed that a cream made from olive oil significantly reduced the risk of dermatitis in premature babies. Another study even showed that an olive oil massage for 15 minutes, 3 times a day for 10 days led to a 21g average daily weight gain for premature babies compared to a 7g average daily weight gain for premature babies that weren’t massaged with olive oil! Olive oil is an amazing ingredient to use in baby skin care and the texture of our Olive Balm makes it easy to enrich your baby’s skin with the goodness of olive oil. Our Olive Balm is safe for babies’ skin and comes in a large tub as well as a 15g tube to chuck in your baby bag for when you’re out!
