Lemon verbena is a plant native to South America and widely used in cooking, perfume, tea and body products. It gets its name from the citrus smell of its leaves which are steam distilled to create an oil that has numerous benefits for your overall health and wellbeing. Lemon verbena plants produce small purple or white flowers in the summer and can grow up to 3 metres tall. They are well suited to grow in the Australian climate but can be sensitive to frost, so they need to be planted in frost-resistant spots and monitored in the cooler months.
At Green Olive at Red Hill, we create a range of body products that harness the natural benefits of lemon verbena to soothe and nourish the skin. Our range of lemon verbena scented body products can calm skin inflammation, work to fight acne-causing bacteria, and help to slow down signs of premature ageing. As well as having some great natural benefits for the skin, lemon verbena has been thought to have a number of benefits for your health. The best way to enjoy lemon verbena is by brewing the leaves in boiling water to make a tea. Drinking lemon verbena tea can help promote digestion, help reduce stress and aid in getting a good night sleep. Look for lemon verbena tea on our farm tapas menu to try this healthy, delicious tea!
